Healing with Horses: Soul Centred Psychotherapy in nature

“Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” - Rumi.

Horses naturally invite us to spend time with them in this field just as we are.

I work alongside horses to provide and support a deeper understanding of self, in a reflective non judgemental space.

As an Equine Assisted Psychotherapist,I work together with you in a reflective way with the horse as a co-facilitator. The sessions are non- riding and are held either outside the paddock or in the arena in observation of the horses, or being in connection with the horses in their natural environment.

Spending time with Horses in nature invites us to slow down, be present and connect.

What is Equine Assisted Learning and Psychotherapy?

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a unique and gentle approach to healing that invites horses to become partners in the therapeutic process. Sessions take place in nature, where the presence of the herd creates a calming, safe environment for exploration and growth. Supported by both a psychotherapist and an equine specialist, the horses act as co-facilitators, helping you reflect on your emotions, behaviours, and relationships in real time.

Horses are deeply intuitive. They respond to our body language and energy, often mirroring what lies beneath the surface. Through simple experiences: brushing a coat, leading a horse, or just sharing quiet time together, you may begin to see yourself more clearly and discover new strengths.

In their herds, horses prioritise connection, safety, and harmony. Their way of relating is both sophisticated and beautifully simple. As humans, we can learn from this wisdom:slowing down, becoming more present, and reconnecting with ourselves, others, and the natural world.

What a Session Might Look Like

Each session unfolds differently, depending on your needs. You might begin by approaching a horse, observing the herd, or engaging in hands-on activities like grooming. These experiences often bring fresh awareness. Perhaps noticing how your body holds tension, or feeling your confidence grow as you connect with the horse.

I will guide and support you, helping to make meaning of what arises. For example, a horse stepping closer, pulling away, or softening its posture can open new insights into your own patterns and feelings. Everything is explored at your pace, in a non-judgmental way. Creative arts or play-based activities may also be included, if they feel helpful.

The gift of Presence

We often hear the phrase: “Don’t just stand there, do something.”
With horses, the invitation is the opposite: “Don’t just do something, stand there.” Simply being present with them is where the magic happens.

My Story

I have always loved horses. From being a very small kid going on pony rides at the local fair to having riding lessons as a teenager and feeling the butterflies in my stomach as we got closer to the stables for a lesson.

When I was 9 we moved countries which was traumatic for me and as a new imigrant I often felt lonely and like I didn’t fit in. This impacted on my confidence and sense of self as well as livIng in a chaotic family with lots of anxiety . Riding and a connection to horses gave me the experience of not being judged, I felt more confident and had a sense of mastery and consistency. the horse was always there!

I volunteered in my late teens for riding for the disabled and developed my passion for working with people and horses in a role of support. this seemed like the perfect marriage. I later was able to own my own horse and develop a unique connection with him . He was my heart horse and our special bond gave me a way of staying connected to myself and of being regulated even though I didn’t know it at the time. It was a profound relationship. Life took many twists and turns and I ended up becoming a Soul Centred Psychotherapist which has been life giving and life changing in so many ways. After almost two decades of working in private practice I am so very glad to be realising my dream of combining my deep love of horses with my passion for healing. I look forward to sharing this with you.
